Morris was the first computer worm to be discovered and to gain the attention of the media in the year 1988.
It was created by Robert Tappan Morris who was a graduate student at Cornell University who launched it on November 02, 1988 from MIT.
It was said that he created this worm to gauge the size of the internet and not to cause any damage to computers.
This 99 line of program caused a cost of the damage at $100,000–10,000,000.
Robert Morris was convicted of violating United States Code "the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act". He was sentenced to three years probation, 400 hours of community service, a fine of $10,050 plus the costs of his supervision.
